COLFAX

Colfax is a Reconstruction-era epic about the architecture of American racial violence and the men it conscripts. In the 1840s, plantation owner Orville Buckhead purchased a fair-skinned young girl named Flossie and her uncle at a public market. Two decades later, her white-passing son, Francis Buckhead, drifts through Reconstruction Louisiana into a paramilitary group whose path leads to the Colfax Massacre of Easter Sunday 1873, hunting the very people he was born from, and doesn't know it.

Opening/Establishing Orville *VERY WIP*
A peek into my process. I like to write with one character in focus at a time. Here I wanted to establish Orville fully before layering Flossie and her Uncle into the scene on later passes.
